NASA recently launched the Kepler satellite whose aim is to detect habitable planets. In just 4 years from now we will be able to answer the question: how common are planets like Earth? Or maybe Earth is really unique as claimed by some creationists. Kepler was launched just a few weeks ago and has now fired up it's camera - what astronomers call "first light".
