The Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) recently launched SELENE, a new mission to study the surface and geology of the moon. The Japanese nickname is Kaguya, named after the lunar princess in a Japanese fairytale. It was launched on 14 September 2007 and the first images have now been released, check them out here.
