Welcome to the homepage of Hans
Bruntt.
So what's all the fuss about? Stars are
spheres of hot gas consisting mainly of the lightest elements: hydrogen
and helium. Slight instabilities can excite soundwaves that travel
through the stars. I am studying this in many different kinds of stars
to learn about their interior. This is very much like what geologists
do to probe the interior of
the Earth with earth quakes. This field of research is called
helioseismology and has been used to learn about our Sun since the
1960s. I am studying more distant stars and this
field is called asteroseismology. It is essentially
the
study of star quakes!
When I am not deeply absorbed in
obscure mysteries of astrophysics
I relax with music and comics. You can read
all about it in these web pages and on my blog.
